Are you aware that it was Valentine’s Day yesterday? I thought I would inform you just in case, you know, you didn’t notice all the flowers and chocolates in the stores, the restaurants crowded with couples and the cheesy posts all over socials. Can you tell I’ve never been a fan? And let’s keep the record straight for the haters: I love love but this is an opinion I’ve had my whole life, single or not. Love is every day y’all! So while many artists were flooding streaming platforms with lovey dovey or sexy singles ahead of February 14 (I gotta admit that I’m a sucker for the steamy tracks though – the proof is in my Under The Sheets playlist), it was super refreshing to get another perspective with M’Lynn and her new song Happy, Sad & Single.
This has actually been a big mood for me during my teenage years and 20s, in between a few serious relationships. Hailing from Dallas, M’Lynn uses her cheeky and playful songwriting to remind us all that in fact, dating is not all roses, and at the end of the day, the most important relationship will always be the one you have with yourself. “I had so much fun making this track. I realized recently that my music doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, and this song is the result of just being silly”, she details.
So pop that bottle of wine and rejoice, all by yourself!
