I’m back with my new column 15 seconds of fame, the traditional 15 minutes having been reduced by some Instagram magic! Every month, I’ll feature one talented anonymous bird from this social media, allowing you to discover that person thanks to a little quiz and my favorite video (and as I’ve always had issues sorting things out, I’ll even add two extra links). But please note that even if I’m offering 15 seconds of fame to these music-loving users, it’s actually YEARS of success that I wish and presage with this column! Without further ado, I’ll invite you to get to know Amalyah. Amalyah who’s the very first Belgian artist to be featured in this series and who turns out to be a reader of this blog — it’s actually thanks to Urban Soul that we’ve had our first interaction on Twitter two years ago. Amalyah who then invited herself on my laptop screen in a Monsieur NOV‘s music video (a french singer). And it’s again on YouTube that I found out about her own singing skills, with a double cover of Musiq Soulchild‘s Just Friends and So Beautiful. You got it now: Amalyah is a woman of taste (but don’t you worry: you’re just as tasteful as you’re reading this post, ha!), with A LOT of gentleness in her voice.

And if you think you have what it takes to give me goosebumps too, send me your link to alison@urbansoul.be or @urbansoulmag on Twitter (and by the way, let’s follow each other on Instagram as well, shall we?)

____

Artist name: Amalyah
Age: 20
City: Brussels, Belgium
I’m a: singer-songwriter.
Instruments: Resuming the piano, step by step.
I fell in love with music… : when I was very little, starting from 4-5 years old. It provided me with some kind of security/comfort zone!
I sing because… : This is how I’ve been communicating for years. It allows me to express everything I feel way more easily, and to convey messages going further than using simple words.
My musical pet peeve: The autotune and the lack of personality in a sound, the lack of depth in lyrics.
The song that represents me the best: 7 Days by Craig David.
3 words to describe my own music: feminine, thoughtful, soulful.
Dream collaboration: Pharrell Williams.
Upcoming projects: I’m currently working on a few other covers as well as an acoustic EP (stay tuned !)… I’m also performing here and there around Brussels and Paris.
Where to find me:  My personal YouTube, Soundcloud and Facebook pages will be online in a few days! I’ll share all that info on my Instagram and Twitter accounts.
