I think most of my r&b lovers out here appreciate a good duet and I have a new one to share with you today, courtesy of Lebanese songstress Bea Kadri. Cue Time On Our Hands, a chill, sultry ballad that shines bright from the get-go thanks to Skies‘ suave vocals, her fellow countryman who’s joining her on the track. While the latter immediately set the mood with all the roundness and warmth in his voice, Bea later brings the heat for the right balance between intimacy and sensuality, perfectly embodying the longing and desire one can feel in a long distance relationship. “I’ve always been in love with his voice, Bea Kadri explains. He was writing this song and it fit the topic of my album and what I was feeling at that time so well that I told him I need this on my project! Time On Our Hands is that moment when we meet after some time apart living long distance. It’s that excitement you feel when you’re about to be in the same space again, feeling that love again. It’s about making the most out of the time we have together.”
The track reminded me of Toni Braxton & Babyface‘s Love, Marriage & Divorce and, coincidentally, Bea Kadri’s debut album No Love for the Long Distance (on which features Time On Our Hands) follows a similar structure, inspired by her own heartache. “It means a lot to me cause it comes from the heart and working on it was my way of dealing with a situation that I was going through. It was a 5-year thing so there was a lot to express! I guess there were a lot of patterns that needed to be broken, and a lot of lessons to be learned. These songs are my therapy”, she confides. Maintaining a relationship while being apart certainly comes with many hardships and for over 2 years and a half, Bea worked on detangling and processing the rollercoaster of emotions you experience falling in and out of love, interestingly recognizing herself both as the victime and the villain. “I tried my best, he tried his best. Our best wasn’t enough for the both of us so we needed to part ways”, she admits.
While Bea Kadri might have been unlucky in love, her other passion in life – music, seems to treat her well. After securing a Master in Music Business Management in London a few years ago, she has been performing in the British capital but also Beirut & Dubai, with the icing on the cake undoubtedly being a member of Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton‘s choir at the BRIT Awards.
