Switching from one genre to another is sometimes a tough act to balance, but some artists manage to do it brilliantly. Initially trained by a jazz and Broadway vocal coach, LA-based singer Taylor DeBlock decided to challenge himself and to study Music Production & Recording Arts at Elon University.
So we now have a great vocalist in front of us, but also a songwriter and a producer, with definitely way more than one trick up his sleeve. Showcasing his talents with finesse, his new single Quicksand kicks off quite nonchalantly but quickly took an unexpected turn mid-verse, totally swallowing me in the depths of his atmospheric layers and futuristic textures for a whirling fusion of pop and r&b that keeps you on your toes.
Telling the story of the problems we create as we try to solve what went wrong in the first place, Quicksand reflects an honest moment of ownership. “Sometimes the harder we try, the deeper we sink. Ultimately, we all must face the enduring paradox – somehow, the more you do, the more you lose”, Taylor admits.
The track will be featured on Taylor DeBlock’s upcoming debut EP.
